Hello, Does anyone know how to allow uTorrent while Avast Home Free Edition is being run on a computer? I'm pretty sure my ports are blocked on my computer because while I'm at home, I can torrent like its no tomorrow yet here at school my ports are somehow blocked even though I'm on my personal laptop, any way around this to open up my ports?

I'm having an issue where my Avast Internet Security software is blocking my access to my server. I am connecting to the server via a local IP (192.168.1.101) from various computers on the same network. Hi, so i just started using the Malwarebytes 3 Premium(trial) and started getting reports saying it is blocking Updater from Avast. Anyway, I open up Malwarebytes to see it and it says my programs are not up to date.
In utorrent, the log shows several unsuccessful attempts, but my router's log does not show any attempt to open a port via upnp. So it seems that the attempts are blocked before reaching the router. The big friendly “You Are Protected” green checkmark on Avast Security Pro’s home screen is certainly a plausible statement. The software is a rare breath of fresh air in a sea of anti-virus products that haven’t worked hard enough to keep up to date with current threats, or haven’t updated the interface to meet modern expectations of presentation and usability.
Avast is danged good at catching malware. AV Comparables says Avast detected 99.9 percent of macOS malware and 100 percent of Windows malware. In spot testing, the app did splendidly. Immediately on decompression of macOS malware from an encrypted archive, Avast detected it, deleted it, and notified me. It did as well with malicious files on the web, though it didn’t detect some items at the WICAR test site that require active local components to be dangerous. Siccing it on drives loaded with other anti-virus products, Avast found test malware I’d downloaded that had wound up in cached files that the anti-virus software on those volumes missed.

Avast’s browser component, Web Shield, doesn’t seem to rely on plug-ins (there are none to configure), but uses the program’s kernel extension to check at a low level. It can be managed from the Avast app, and settings apply to all browsers.

This is unique among anti-virus software we tested, and it looks for devices on a network engaged in malicious behavior. Other anti-virus software packaged with network monitors either whitelist local network activity, or treat it the same as any malicious Internet attacks. This seems aimed at helping users understand if they’ve joined a network, such as at a coffeeshop, that has compromised or attacking devices on it.

One negative is the soft but distinct upsell of Avast, which is sensible in its Free version, but not necessarily in a Pro. If you’re looking for a free anti-virus program, Avast is the best choice, edging out Sophos by providing more parity between free and paid version.
While we gave Sophos Home Premium and Avast Security Pro the same 4.5 mice rating, Sophos has a slight edge. The combination of active ransomware scanning makes it somewhat more superior to the folder-based method in Avast, while central configuration and remote control in Sophos can help for a disparate set of family or small-business users. We like Avast’s unique Wi-Fi threat detection, and its native app interface, where Sophos leans heavily on the cloud.

My problem appears to result from my current configuration of the Firewall provided automatically by AVG Internet Security (vrs downloaded: avg_ipw_x86_all_2011_1136a3181) and unfortunately I?ve not yet got my head around the firewall blocking features of this software.
I have 4 machines connected to a D-link 635 Wi-Fi router.
2 machines are desktops running windows 7 and include AVG Internet Security, both machines are set-up as Small Home or Office Network and are on a homegroup, so can share files and printers. The 2 other machines are laptops running windows XP.
One of the laptops is on AVG Internet Security which has been automatically set-up as a Small Home or Office Network, whereas the second laptop is running Zone Alarm Firewall (Free vrs) and AVG Anti-virus (Free vrs).
I recently set-up the router configuration rules to allow me to plug in a USB external hard-drive into the USB connector on the D-Link router to create a ?Network Drive and I also installed the latest vrs of D-Link?s SharePort utility on to the 2 laptops. The SharePort program automatically runs at start-up and will allow a machine to see and then allow the user to manually connect/disconnnect to/from the new ?network? drive, although it only allows one machine to connect at a time.
Results:
? First on the laptop running Zone Alarm Free and AVG Anti-virus Free, the Zone Alarm firewall asked me to ?allow? SharePort, which I confirmed. The network drive then appeared with a drive letter assigned and I?ve been able to automatically see/connect/disconnect to the drive (read/write access).
? With the laptop running AVG Internet Security, initially when I installed SharePort it automatically executed and displayed a box indicating that the firewall must be reconfigured to allow TCP out port 80:20005 and UDP outport: 9303.
? After clicking OK to the SharePort message, the firewall then asked for me to confirm what setting to apply to SharePort, which I chose ?allow all (recommended)? and checked the save for future box.
? The firewall than confirmed Small Home or Office Network was operating.
? I then clicked on the SharePort icon in the tray and it displayed a box indicating the USB drive is not accessible.
? I then checked the Firewall Traffic log, which displayed numerous entries for every 10 seconds:
o Application = SYSTEM
o Log Action = Blocked
o PID = 4
o Direction = Out
o Protocol = TCP
o Remote Port = 20005
o Local Port = starting at 1400 and then incremented by 1 or 2 for each entry
o Remote IP = nnn.168.0.1
o Local Port = 0.0.0.0.
? Next I ran the Firewall wizard and change the setting from Small Home or Office Network to Allow All, which effectively disabled every blocking setting.
? Shareport icon in the tray changed from Red to Green and on clicking allowed me to connect and disconnect to the Network Drive.
? I have subsequently changed the firewall back to Small Home or Office Network and the wizard indicated that it had applied Network 1 settings automatically.
My goal is to have all 4 machines accessing the Network Drive for file sharing and back-up, so would really appreciate a step by step guide as to how I manually change the firewall settings to insure top notch security whilst getting AVG Internet Security firewall to allow access to the Network Drive.
